Read a notice board at the local store...dog shampooing, clipping, groomimg...great I thought saves me getting wet all over....and will take three dogs one not mine...made the appointment, waited half an hour operator not there, took four minutes each to shampoo the dogs, sorry clippers broken, sorry dryer broken, sorry fleas stay on... Forty five dollars later with still dirty dogs, and I handed over the money, took them home, and said to Rose I'll clip the dog, out came the humongous horse clippers and off I went, Rose took the dog home and shampooed and brushed him and he looked great. I think I need to give up work and shampoo dogs, and I would even take their photograph afterwards. Perhaps a smaller less noisy set of clippers may be needed for the job...and I do not have a clue on the correct clip for a Maltese terrier in the tropics. Considering the size of the clippers and the small size of the dog we were quite pleased with ourselves.
Not so pleased handing over the money without saying a word and putting my wet and not cleaned, flea ridden dogs back on the ute. I guess the feet will do the talking in the future.

It cost me $60 here just to get Oscar clipped and he hated the experience. So I invested in a pair of dog clippers (I tried my human ones but not up to the job) and do it myself every couple of months in the Wet. He now enjoys it, though it does mean I have to sit on the ground covered in dog hair and we all get a hose off afterwards..... For some reason he just loves rolling in the clipped off hair?
It may not be the most professional job, and there MAY have been one or two bald spots in the early days as I tried different techniques, but hey, Oscar doesn't give a damn what he looks like!
Oscar the Wonder dog would need a clip in the heat...I do have some silent greyhound clippers somewhere, use it to do the horse's ears, used the huge Heiniger Clippers on the little dog....He did not enjoy the experience very much was very happy when it was over. A little nervous around his private parts.
Do you leave artistic hair here and there....I tried to remember what a poodle looked like after a clip.
People keep trying to persuade me to "do a mohawk" or something artistic, but honestly, it's just enough to get him clipped sans trauma without worrying about style!
Because the poor boy has hip dyplasia he hates his rear end being touched so there is no fancy work there! But it is all worth it as the Wonder Dog does 340 laps around the yard after clipping.
The funniest thing is that for weeks after the haircut his personality changes - he becomes incredibly naughty and cheeky for quite some time.... The story of Samson and Deliah must have some parallel in the dog world!
I would have been quite irrate paying out that sort of money for not even a job half done....
Guess they won`t be getting your business again???...lol
That is for sure Mandy...she did not even get to the skin on the collie or the maltese and scruffed the hair about for a couple of minutes only.....I would have been embarrassed had I done the job.
Funnily enough the personality change thing was mentioned by my niece when we were doing her little dog...She had him done last summer by a real professional and she swears he had a personality makeover with the loss of the hair.
The animals must feel so good with the loss of the coat during the summer. Is a shame with the hip problem.
What a rip off. doesn't that make you mad.? Now I know why I haven't any pets anymore.
