KUDOS

I watched a National Current affairs programme tonight with Kerry O'Brien showing the project of Ausaid, where 1000 schools are being built in Indonesia. Makes me proud to know that Australian money is going to education where children have the opportunity and skills to make informed choices whether we agree or not. I have always believed if everyone is treated as an equal our differences will just be that and we can agree to be different and respect and appreciate the differences. I try not to comment on current news items but I find this particular agenda uplifting and non condescending.

You would have a first hand insight into that area... I have always thought that if the world educated the young so that they do know choices are out there...and by education I do not mean learn our way or you do not get the money, but an universal education with no strings attached...perhaps differences and understanding can be achieved.

Let us hope that this continues.....

Well said Elizabeth.

Back in Perth there was a kind soul who collected unwanted computers for schools in Bali. I cleaned off my documents, but left Word, Excel etc on the hard drive. My computer, along with others, were taken up by Qantas to Bali, where this Perth lady would take them to the schools.

I heard back form her that the school office staff who received my machine were overjoyed at being able to ditch a typewriter for a word processor, no matter if it were old.

Grass roots stuff can make a difference.

Unfortunately there are almost always strings attached. Pouring money and aid into Indonesia is probably to protect us from having a hostile neighbour, incidently the largest muslim country in the world.
