ON THE ROAD
Down the road from my property ..was looking for a pair of swans who have returned but missed them on this particular morning but the male mail man informs me they are back so will try and stalk them again.
Have been so sick the past week and do not often get a virus or cold.
Am on sick leave for the first time in my working life.....have been too sick until today to even think about the computer.
Hendra Virus a bat born virus that infects horses and crosses the species into humans and has been lethal was detected in the state a couple of weeks ago and been on the news...People know I am associated with horses and when indicated was feeling unwell would take ten steps backwards and ask in a strangled nonchalant voice..."Have any of your horses been sick lately" . When I am sick I like to be alone "I just vant to be alone" so look a little vague and undecided and the enquirer scuttles off. Naw I do not have the virus but have not had any bedside visitors to my sick room. Very sensible people they are too!!!. Oh Well have enjoyed the lounge about...just lay there like a stunned mullet.....lost some kilos though....

THE WAR YEARS.... GRANDFATHER
.jpg)
During the second World War Brisbane was host to thousands of American soldiers on R & R. General MacArthur made his Headquarters in the AMP Building in Queens Street, Brisbane in March 1942. By November tension between the Australian and American forces had reached a point when the Battle of Brisbane erupted with rioting between the two allied personnel.
The Americans had a huge camp in the area which is/was Doomben Racecourse.
Grandfather "Hell Bent" was employed to guard the camp at night. His main job was to keep Australian soldiers away from American soldiers who were here to "save" us. The cause of the fracture in cordial relations for the short period was over "women". Would you not know it. The Australian girls were quite taken with the American boys!!!
Of course old "Hell Bent" was in his element as thrived on controversy especially when he could ride around on his horse waving a gun......

NEVER TOO OLD
..to enjoy yourself or consider trying something new. On the outing today, Carl who is closer to 100 than 90 asked the Diversional Therapist would she like to have a go on the "see saw". Carl's parents were immigrants from Germany and he and his siblings as young people and adults worked hard and long on the farm. I very much doubt that Carl as a child of asture upbringing would have ever been on a "see saw" before in his life.
DANELLE
Despite the change in plans the outing was enjoyed.

THE DRILL
The following day a strike for the day and of course it rained some more. Then after the strike and a a little amount of water running down the hole succeeding in turning the fine sand with the kaolin clay into a mortice along came a humungous crane. They huffed and puffed and still could not extract the drill. By this time I restricted myself at peeping at them over the tops of bushes hiding the camera. I lie ...I was not brave enough to venture out with the camera as thought they may try and bury me in the hole.....The drilling pipe is still stuck in the ground about 30 plus metres down and no one has been back for the past few days. I do not think I will complain about how the crane sunk into the ground about six inches and ruined my lawn!!! The top of the drilling bore is about a metre out of the ground defiantly sticking out for all to see.
The drill the little ripper.....I could use it to look for water in the bottom side of this property

BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN
I am clocking up about 20 ks per day at the present on the Arabians and am enjoying myself to the maximum. My children are resigned to the knowledge that I am ageing disgracefully.

This is me two years ago recovering from my knee operation doing a little less physical ie joined the Pony Club and competed as a Senior .....people shaking their heads in the background..Is she really going through a second childhood. Not content to recover in Pony Club pursuits decided to be a silly bugger and dress up in the fantasy theme and shoot everyone in the parade with a cap gun and chased my son on the footpath of the pub on my horse "Would you please go home Mum" and "No" do not overindulge in alcohol.
